With awards season right around the corner, it’s time for our 2011 Golden Globe nominations and predictions. We’ll be looking at all the performers and works being recognized for cinematic excellence, and I’ll even throw in my predictions at no extra charge. The Golden Globes also honor achievements on the small screen, but you’ll need to look elsewhere for that information; this is, after all, Only Good Movies.
The 68th Golden Globe Awards will air live on Sunday, January 16th, 2011 on NBC. Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, you can see it from 8 to 11pm EST, 5 to 8pm PST, and 7 to 10pm CST.
Among the highlights of the evening will be the presentation of the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures to Robert DeNiro. After he receives the award, it will promptly be taken away due to his recent appearance in Little Fockers. Sorry, Bobby D.
The King’s Speech led all nominees in the movie categories with seven chances to win, while The Social Network and The Fighter were both tied with six nominations. Strangely, The Tourist received three nominations, despite being a critical and box-office disappointment. And despite being billed as the thriller–which it is–the film was placed in the “Musical or Comedy” category.
Now here are the 2011 Golden Globe nominations and predictions. The latter are in bold print, and feel free to show off your own skills at prognostication in our comments section. But before you start making your predictions, keep in mind that the Golden Globes tend to be less high-minded than the Oscars. After all, Avatar was the Best Drama winner last year, while The Hangover took home the gold for Best Musical or Comedy.
